Week 5 Poll Recap
Week 5 Poll Recap
Weekly Risers
5. Bowling Green (Bowling Green, KY) -
Bowling Green jumps into the No. 5 spot this week from No. 7. The Lady Purples continued their impressive stretch extending their winning streak to five games. This streak includes a convincing win over previous No. 2, Bullitt East. Tanaya Bailey (jr.), LynKayla James (sr.), Meadow Tisdale (jr.), and Saniyah Shelton (jr.) all scored in double figures for BG in their win over the Lady Chargers.
8. Mercy Academy (Louisville, KY) -
Mercy Academy jumps back into the Top 10 after a one week hiatus. The Lady Jags have been up and down a bit this season, but that is expected with such a young roster. Nick Cann’s team is led in scoring by two freshmen, Leah Macy (19.3 ppg) and Alyssa Murphy (14.1 ppg). This is a team that we could envision being a tough-out come tournament time based on their talent.
10. Dixie Heights (Edgewood, KY) -
Dixie Heights was the biggest mover this week jumping seven spots into the Hoops Mafia Top 10 for the first time. The Colonels took No. 2 George Rogers Clark down to the wire, losing in double-overtime before the new year. It is their balanced offensive attack including, Madelyn Lawson (18.6 ppg), Samantha Berman (12.6 ppg), Reese Smith (12.6 ppg), and Ella Steczynski (12 ppg), that has Dixie Heights up twelve spots in two weeks.
16. Central (Louisville, KY) -
Central High School jumps back into the Coaches Poll after being ranked in week one and receiving votes in every poll since. A win over previous No. 5 Anderson County is surely responsible for Central’s jump this week. DeShawn Pendleton’s scheduling has Central being tested night in and night out as four of their five losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents. The Yellow Jackets continue to be led in scoring by sophomore Destiny Jones (17.5 ppg) and senior Amaya Asher (11.3 ppg).
